Everything Begins with Information

The aim of the project was to promote increased awareness level of young people with disabilities on reproductive health by encouraging healthy lifestyle choices. The project was accomplished within the framework of a grant contest announced by the Armenian Youth Foundation—a partner organization of the president of the Republic of Armenia.

Timeframe for the project: April-October 2014

As a result of the project, young people with disabilities and their families were informed about the right of persons with disabilities to sexual and reproductive health through articles published on the Disabilityinfo.am and ikin.am websites.

Seminars were held for young people with disabilities on the topic “Reproductive Rights and Sexual Health”. During the seminars, young people got acquainted with the RA Law on Reproductive Health and Reproductive Rights and discussed ways to exercise their rights. The meetings took place in the cities of Yerevan and Armavir.

Trainings on media coverage of issues of reproductive health of young people with disabilities were conducted for journalists and students. The barriers to, the language and ethics of exercising those rights, as well as the nuances of media coverage were discussed.

An electronic guide was created for media on coverage of sexual and reproductive issues of persons with disabilities.

Within the framework of the project, the audio version of the 300-page book entitled, “My Right to Being Healthy” was recorded for people with visual impairments. 50 copies were distributed to persons with visual impairments.
